In order to raise the level of production, increase
participation, and that there be no false illusions concerning
expectations, this contract has been established. Please read each item

Introduction to Drama is the prerequisite course for the other advanced
acting classes here at JCHS. A student must successfully (with a C or
better) pass this course and display the necessary skills
needed at the next level and have the instructor's
permission to advance into Acting I. (That is, the student must have
been a positive, and not a negative contributor to the class).
This is a performance-based class. Students will perform/present
scenes/activities almost daily, and a lack of doing so will result in
loss of participation and/or other performance points.
Each student will be required to read one play this semester. At
the end of the semester, a written and oral summary of the play and
an analysis of one of the characters will be due. This will be a play
chosen from a list I have compiled. Failure to do this assignment will
result in a one-letter-grade reduction on the student's final grade.
Movies will be shown from time to time as we study the dramatic
components of plot, comedy, tragedy, musical, and parody. These movies
will be rated G, PG, or Pg-13.
All absences, excused or otherwise, will have a negative effect on the
student's participation grade, because there is no possible way to
recreate the events that happen with the entire class during a 90-minute
period. (Lectures, discussions, group activities, rehearsal, scene
presentation, video watching, etc., are missed when a student is
absent.)
The students have been issued a course outline/syllabus. You can refer
to it (or online at
