JCHS Fall Play Contract

"Code of Conduct"

Because it is a privilege to participate in JCHS productions, there are certain codes of conduct students must adhere to, or they will not be allowed to participate.  Simply put, students in the JCHS play will "do the right thing," or they will not be in the play.

Part 1: Maintaining a "GOOD STANDING" status as a student.

Rule # 14 of the Kansas State High School Activities Association states that in order to be eligible for participation, a student must be in GOOD STANDING.  I know this applies to competition, however I'm making it a Fall Play rule as well.

*There are several key offenses that will remove a student’s "GOOD STANDING" status:

1- Failure in the classroom. The student must have passed at least five classes the previous semester in order to be in GOOD STANDING for the present semester.  The student must also be enrolled in at least five classes the semester of the production.  "But I'm in the play" will never be an acceptable excuse for classroom failure.

2- Using, or being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, at any time during the entire production process (including, but not limited to, auditions, rehearsals, meetings, clinics, costume fittings, and performances). A student who is observed, first offense (by any parent, law-enforcement officer, or school-district employee), using alcohol, drugs, or tobacco (during school hours or school-sponsored extra-curricular activities) will immediately lose their GOOD STANDING status. Also, a student suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, will be referred to an administrator, who will take the steps necessary to determine whether that student is truly under the influence or not. If it is determined that the student is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, that student will immediately lose their GOOD STANDING status.

*CONSEQUENCES: A student that loses his/her GOOD STANDING status will promptly be removed from the remainder of the production process.

Part 2: Attendance.

Concerning rehearsal attendance, the following shall apply:

  1. When the director deems it necessary to approach a performer concerning tardies, it will happen.  The director shall determine the course of action which may include replacement or removal from the production.  (*No student shall determine this.)
  2. When the director deems it necessary to approach a performer concerning absences, it will happen.  The director shall determine the course of action which may include replacement or removal from the production.  (See * in point 1.)

I have read and agree to abide by the above code of conduct.  I also understand and accept the consequences of being declared not in GOOD STANDING.
