Students will refine their computer
keyboarding skills, increase speed and accuracy, and gain proficiency in
formatting and text editing. Students will learn commercial software.
This class will satisfy the computer technology graduation
requirement and is a prerequisite for other computer classes.

Programming

Prerequisite: "C" in Algebra, Word
Processing, Software Applications or Spreadsheets Applications.
This course is designed to introduce the
student to the Visual Basic programming language. Flowcharting, writing,
running, and debugging programs are minimum student objectives. This
class will satisfy the computer technology graduation requirement.

Spreadsheet
Applications
One Semester Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: Word Processing
Spreadsheet Applications teaches students
the fundamentals of Excel 2002. The course will acquaint students with
the proper procedures to create workbooks suitable for professional
purposes use. Students will learn how to create spreadsheets using
formulas, functions, and what-if analysis. Formatting cells, graphs,
sorting templates, macros, and linking to a Word document and some of the
other topics covered throughout the course. This class will satisfy
the computer technology graduation requirement

Applications

Prerequisite: Word Processing
Software Applications teaches students the
fundamentals of Access 2002, PowerPoint 2002, and Outlook 2002. The
course will acquaint students with the proper procedures to create
databases, presentations, e-mail, and maintaining appointments and tasks.
Students will design reports, manage records, create automated
presentation, receive and send e-mail’s and maintain appointments using
calendaring software. This class will satisfy the computer
technology graduation requirement

Desktop Publishing

Prerequisite: Word Processing, Software
Applications or Spreadsheet Applications
This course offers students an opportunity
to learn how to create and publish desktop projects such as newsletters,
brochures, handbooks, etc. Students will use the following software
programs: PageMaker (publishing) and PhotoShop (photo/graphic
manipulation). Students enrolling should have an attention to detail and
a flair for design. This class will satisfy the computer
technology graduation requirements.

This class is designed to offer students a
more in depth approach to creating and publishing desktop projects.
Students will use the software programs used for Desktop Publishing I in
addition to Illustrator and Streamline. Students should have an attention
to detail and a flair for design. This class will satisfy the
computer technology graduation requirement.

Accounting is a lab course which presents
a systematic way of keeping records and introduces computerized
accounting. Most of the work will be done in class; therefore, attendance
is important. This course serves as an introduction to college
accounting.

Entrepreneurship

This course is an overview in starting a
business. The course will begin with the basic business plan. In
addition the following will be taught: marketing, advertising, obtaining
loans, personal management, recordkeeping, legal requirements, social and
ethical responsibilities as well as problem solving in the work place.

Consumer Finance

Prerequisite: Keyboarding
Consumer Finance teaches students
step-by-step methods of approaching smart earning, spending, saving and
investing strategies. Topics include everything from earning an income,
planning for the future, certificates of deposit to mutual funds, and
insurance. Students will learn how to analyze the value of the stock
market. Financial planning, banking, credit, online shopping, online
investing, and taxes are discussed from a technology perspective.

Marketing

Entertainment Marketing is a specialized
course for students with interest in the field of sports and
entertainment. In addition to a marketing overview, this course is
designed to provide these students with competencies in the area of
promotion, sales, event marketing, facility design, merchandising,
advertising, public relations/publicity, sponsoring, tickets distribution
and career opportunities as they relate to the sports and entertainment
industry

Business Job
Training I
SEM/YEAR Grade: 11, 12
Credit: ½ or 1
Prerequisite: Word Processing
This class will meet every other day each
semester. Students are required to complete 180 hours of work
experience. Students may be required to attend class before school, after
school, or during Seminar to meet the required hours. Students may take
one semester of BJT I during their Junior year and may complete BJT II
during their Senior year. Or Juniors and Seniors may take 2 semesters of
BJT I.
Students will learn employment
opportunities, managing money techniques, and familiarity business related
jobs at the school. Half of the work will come from the community, where
businesses will send jobs to the high school for students to complete.
Some examples may include: Teaching businesses how to use software,
create a business web page and show the business how to update their page,
etc. The other half of the work will come from the school or school play
program, entering game stats for coaches, creating the student and faculty
daily bulletin, and creating the parent newsletter.

Students enrolled in this class will learn the programming languages HTML and
touch on Javascript and CSS. Students will utilize this knowledge, along with
conceptual design models, in creating various World Wide Web pages for community
and school use. This course will rely heavily on self-directed reading,
research, and writing assignment. Students will be required to sign and follow
the USD 475 Acceptable Use Policy.

Students enrolled in this class will learn advanced HTML, CSS, and Java
Script. This course will also explore advanced web development software.
Students will be responsible for updating and maintaining the high school web
site.
