Junction City High School
A Tradition of Success
The Junction City High School Staff and Site Council feel very
strongly that we – as parents, students and staff – have much
to be proud of at Junction City High School and want to share some of our
successes with you.
- NATIONAL RECOGNITION. The International Center for
Leadership in Education recognized Junction City
High School as a 2005 Model School – one of only 25 in the nation – for
its successful transition into the career academy structure.
- STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE. Recently the Kansas State Board of
Education has notified the district that Junction City
High School has met the building wide Standard of Excellence in
Reading!!!!!
- NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND SUCCESS. JCHS
students in the 2005-2006 school year, met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress). AYP
is an ever increasing standard that our student body must meet.
- CAREER ACADEMY: REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE=REAL WORLD SUCCESS.
- JCHS students learn from experience in a job
shadowing program and an internship program. Both allow our students hands-on
job experiences in a chosen field.
- Annual JCHS Discovery Days allow freshmen
students the opportunity to visit job sites and different businesses within
our community. Students begin thinking about careers and vocation
possibilities as well as learn about employer expectations.
- Local businesses conduct mock interviews with JCHS
seniors during English classes. All seniors must prepare a resume and
participate in the program.
- More than 75 formal businesses partner with JCHS.
Also, an additional 100+ businesses and individuals volunteer time and
materials for educational projects each year.
- EDUCATIONAL JACKPOT. JCHS class of 2007 received $1.6 million
in local, state and national scholarships. The class of
2006 received $915,553 in local, state and national scholarships. The class of
2005 received more than $1.3 million in scholarships.
- COMMUNITY PROMISE & PARTNERSHIP. The City of Junction City and
JCHS have entered into a partnership to operate,
manage, and make successful a community downtown “soda fountain.” This project
incorporates several classes from the Business Information and Technology
Academy – from interior design to accounting class. The
JCHS Science Engineering and Technology Academy also partnered with the
City to plan, design, build and complete a house on city owned property that
upon completion will be sold with proceeds, after expenses, going back into
the JCHS construction program.
- PUBLIC ATTENTION. Since implementation of the career academies,
JCHS has been featured in several
publications. Our progress has been highlighted by nationally recognized
educational leaders who have had the opportunity to see what we already know –
when the school, the community, the students and the parents work together
towards a common goal, great things will happen.
