SECTION II: PRO CEDURES/REGULATIONS
NOTICE: THIS CAMPUS IS UNDER CCTV SURVEILLANCE
Students are under the authority of the faculty and staff
employed by USD 475 any time they are on
school grounds, at school-sponsored activities or being
transported by bus to and from school.
Students
must respectfully follow district and school policy and any
additional directions as instructed by
school personnel and other persons placed in authority.
STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a scholarly,
respectful manner that reflects the business
like attitude of a JCHS student with the goal of graduating.
Specifically:
1. Respect self, others and property. Profanity and vociferous
behavior is not conducive to the academic
atmosphere needed for learning.
2. Know and follow all school and classroom rules, policies and
procedures.
3. Refrain from public display of affection (embracing, kissing,
etc.) at school.

other nuisance articles
Disturbances which interrupt educational opportunities and
contribute to theft problems may originate
from radios, tape players, squirt guns, water balloons, cellular
or portable phones, laser pens, roller
blades, skate boards, playing cards or dice and other nuisance
articles. Students are not to bring such
items to school.
Violation of this rule will result in confiscation of the
equipment and disciplinary consequences.
It is recommended that students not bring pages or cell phones
to school. However, if parents/guardians
and students decide it is necessary, paging devices and cell
phones are to be kept out of sight and
must be kept on “silent signal” at all times on school grounds.
Junction City High School will not assume
responsibility of investigating loss or theft of such articles.
Students cannot answer or return a page or
phone call during class.
APPEARANCE/DRESS CODE
A student’s personal appearance is the responsibility of the
student and their parents, but becomes the
responsibility of JCHS when the mode of dress or personal
grooming habits are disruptive to the functioning
of the school. Administrators reserve the right to make
decisions concerning appropriate dress.
Students
should present themselves neatly and well-groomed. Students are
not allowed to wear:
1. Clothing that is inappropriate or that
exposes chest, shoulders, bare Midsection or buttocks such
as: bare midriffs, bare backs, spaghetti strap tops with bra
straps showing, fishnet shirts, sheer tops
with bra showing, halters, tube tops or tops without shoulder
straps, undergarments showing, or
short-shorts. No ‘sagging,” etc.
2. Garments with inappropriate, abusive,
crude/profane/obscene language, references to alcohol, drugs
or tobacco products or sexual innuendoes.
3. Sunglasses or goggles (unless approved by
the school nurse, or lab instructor).
4. Hats, scarves, picks, bandannas,
stocking/skull caps, sweat/sports bands may not be worn in the
building. The high school staff has the right to confiscate any
item deemed inappropriate for school
and retain it in their Academy Office.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:
1. The wearing of heavy coats in the class
room is discouraged. Coats may be subject to search at
any time at the discretion of the administration.
2. Footwear must be worn at all times.
Bedroom slippers or pajamas are not
allowed.
3. Clothing must be worn in the manner for
which it was designed. Clothing designed as under garments
must not be worn as outer garments.
4. Any attire—including jewelry and
tattoos—that is construed to be gang-related will not be allowed.
5. Chains longer than six (6) inches, or
jewelry that could cause injury (ie. spikes, sharp edges) will
not be allowed.

ALCOHOL/ILLEGAL DRUGS: (1-3 days ASD, OSS, LTS, E*)
The use of, possession of, and/or
being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or other
intoxicants while on school premises, on
school sponsored trips, inside or outside the building, and/or
in attendance at any school sponsored
event. (See General Information section — Drug Free Schools)

TOBACCO: (1-3 days ASD, 055*) Federal and Kansas statute prohibits the use of
any form of
tobacco inside of
the building. Board policy prohibits any use or possession of any form of
tobacco
on school premises by students during the school day regardless
of whether the student is of age
to purchase tobacco products legally. No student will use any
form of tobacco while on school
premises, on school sponsored trips, inside or outside the
building, and/or in attendance at any
school sponsored event. (See General Information section — Drug
Free Schools)

FIGHTING: (3-5 days OSS, LTS, E*)
Physical confrontation is forbidden on school premises Physical
confrontation is also forbidden during the lunch period while
off campus, and en route to and from
school while in a district-operated vehicle. Any fighting will
result in OSS with a due process hearing.
Any student instigating a fight may also be suspended. City and
military police may be notified.
4. VERBAL
CONFLICT: (ASD, 0SS, LTS, E*)
Verbal harassment, arguments or confrontations will not
be tolerated. (See General Information section — Sexual
Harassment)
5.
GANG-RELATED ACTIVITY: (1-5 days ASD, OSS, LTS, E*)
Street gangs can be described as a
group of people who form an allegiance for a common purpose and
engage in violent, unlawful or
criminal activity. Gang-related activities range from choice of
dress to choice of conduct and behavior
(i.e. flashing hand signs, graffiti, etc.) JCHS will not
tolerate any gang-related activity on school
property at anytime. School administration reserves the right to
define such activity gang-related
and to admonish individuals accordingly.
6.
WEAPONS: (OSS, LTS, E*) The
possession of any weapon or facsimile is strictly prohibited. This
includes any weapon found on a person, in a locker or in any
vehicle on school premises or at any
school-sponsored event. Any item used with the intent to inflict
harm/injury to another person may
be considered a weapon.
7.
POSSESSION OF OR ATTEMPTS TO USE STOLEN OR LOST PROPERTY: (1-5 days ASD, OSS,
LTS*) All lost or
stolen property, including tests, lunch tickets, etc., should be immediately
reported
to the student office.
8.
PHYSICAL THREATS, VERBAL ABUSE OF ANY SCHOOL STAFF MEMBER: (ASD, OSS, LTS, E *)
9.
DISRESPECT, DEFIANCE/INSUBORDINATION: (1-5 days ASD, OSS, LTS, E*)
Willful and/or
profane disobedience of a staff member’s reasonable request.
10. FALSE
ALARMS: (5 days LTS*) Fire alarm or bomb threat.
11.
PROPERTY DAMAGE/VANDALISM/THEFT: (ASD, OSS, LTS, Restitution, E*)
Any student who,
through misuse or carelessness, damages or destroys school
property shall make restitution.
12.
CHEATING OR PLAGIARISM: (ASD, OSS)
To steal or pass off as one’s own (the ideas or work of
another). This may result in loss of credit, withdrawal from
class and/or long term suspension.
Definition of Plagiarism :
Plagiarism is the use of passages, materials, words or ideas that come
from someone or something else, without properly naming the
source.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
• Copying someone’s assignment;
• Copying text or other materials from the internet or other
source without citing them;
• Paraphrasing items from a book or article without citing them;
• Using translation software to translate sentences or passages;
or
• Using the same sentence structure or thesis as another source
without citing it
Basically, if someone or something else has done the work (or a
portion of it) for you, and you do
not acknowledge it, you are being academically dishonest.

VIOLATIONS (ASD, OSS, LTS and loss of riding privileges)
*A hearing officer may suspend/expel up to 180 school days which
may extend into the next
semester/school year.
GENERAL SEARCHES AND METAL DETECTION SEARCHES
Searches for contraband on JCHS students will be periodically
conducted. All/ Any person entering
the building may be subject to search in accordance with
district policy. Contraband found will be
confiscated and turned over to school administrators for further
action with the owner of the item. Types
of searches conducted:
• Locker
• Hall Sections
• Classroom
• Visual searches of individuals, bags, book bags and purses
• Walk-through metal detection
• Hand-held metal detection scanner
• Drug-detecting dogs
food/drinks
Food/drinks brought into the building must remain in a sealed
container, and shall not be consumed
in the hallways, in commons, or in Fiffe or Shenk Foyer Items
brought into the building are
subject to search. Food/Drink in classrooms is up to the
discretion of the classroom teacher.
Students will be asked to throw food and drinks into the trash
if they are consumed in hallways.
Students are encouraged to use the trash receptacles regularly.
Candy sales may only take place
in the commons areas before/after school or during lunch.
Edibles may not be taken aboard or
consumed on any bus or other school vehicle. Exceptions may be
approved through the sponsor/
coach and activities/athletic director.
STUDENTS IN BUILDING AFTER SCHOOL HOURS
Students who need to be in the building after hours must be with
a faculty or staff member at all times.
Students may not be in the building unsupervised. Students
waiting for rides are to wait in the commons
area, where they will be supervised. In the event of a school
sponsored activity, students should inform
rides to pick them up no later than 30 minutes after the close
of an activity. If rides have not shown up,
students may be asked to wait off school property.
AFTER SCHOOL DECISION (ASD)
Objective: To encourage students to make positive decisions. The
After School Decisions Program (ASD)
is a structured setting that allows students to serve detention
as a consequence of a poor decision in
violation of school or classroom policies. While in ASD,
students are expected to be working on academic
assignments while following all rules and regulations of the
adult supervisor. The goal of ASD is to
encourage students to take a more positive role in making
decisions throughout life, including school.
Day/Hours: Monday
through Thursday from TBA
p.m. to
TBA
p.m. Students will not be admitted after
TBA p.m. for ASD
without a pass from an administrator.
Location: Room 126
1. Attendance will be taken by the ASD
Supervisor each day. Students who do not serve their assigned
ASD time will be reported back to the administrator who made the
assignment.
2. Students will bring assignments and
necessary materials to work on during the time they are assigned
to ASD. Students will meet with ASD supervisor at the beginning
of the session to review assignments
to be completed. ASD supervisor reserves the right to give
assignments as deemed necessary to
students. Assignments given by ASD supervisor will be routed to
appropriate school personnel.
3. Students will not be allowed to talk or
socialize in ASD. This includes listening to walkman, radio,
playing games or writing notes.
4. Students will not be permitted to sleep or
do nothing.
5. Food and drink is not allowed in the ASD
room.
6. Students are responsible for making their
own arrangements from the ASD location to their homes.
There is an activity bus available that goes to Ft. Riley that
may accommodate Ft. Riley Students.
The ASD Supervisor will have bus passes to distribute to
students assigned to ASD that will allow
them to board the After School Activity Bus.
SUSPENSION AND EXPULSION
In accordance with the laws of the State of Kansas, K.S.A.
72-8801 ,and the policy of the Geary County
Board of Education, a student may be suspended for up to five
days due to infractions of rules and
regulations or expelled.* Suspension disciplinary action for
violations of proper school conduct. With
any suspension the parents or guardians will be notified in
writing of the duration and reason for the
suspension.
Suspended students may not attend or participate in school activities —
or be on the
school campus — during the time of their suspension.
Suspended students must report (3:15 – 6:15) to the Dixon Center
located at 920 West 6th during their
days of suspension. Students must successfully complete their
assigned time to be considered for
reinstatement. Any OSS must have an administrative conference or
hearing to be reinstated.
The following behaviors may lead to suspension, with possible
expulsion of 180 days and/or notification
of law authorities.
